Gate repair in Trophy Club, TX

Trophy Club's gated entrances are old enough to be interesting. The town's golf-course neighborhoods went in decades ago, and the gates and access systems installed with them have now outlived their manufacturers' support. Most of our work here is a single question: retrofit what's there, or start over?

The obsolescence problem

The gate is fine. The parts don't exist.

A well-built steel gate lasts far longer than the electronics that drive it. That mismatch is the defining condition of gate work in an established community like Trophy Club, and it produces a conversation homeowners and boards find genuinely frustrating.

The leaf is sound. The posts are plumb. The hinges are serviceable. And the control board is a discontinued part from a manufacturer that stopped supporting the line years ago, with no new-old-stock left and no drop-in equivalent. There is nothing wrong with the gate, and the gate does not work.

What we won't do is take a deposit and order a part we know isn't available. If your operator has reached that point, we'll say so on the first visit and put the actual options in front of you.

Decision framework

Retrofit, replace the operator, or rebuild the entrance

Aging entrance — what the condition actually calls for
ConditionRecommendationWhat gets reused
Gate structure sound, operator failed, parts unavailable Operator replacement Gate, posts, footings, conduit, and often the existing power supply. The least disruptive outcome.
Operator serviceable, access system obsolete Access retrofit only The entire mechanical installation. New call box or reader wires into the existing operator.
Gate frame racked or corroded, hardware worn Structural repair or leaf rebuild Posts and footings if they're plumb and sound. We fabricate the replacement leaf in our own shop.
Posts leaning, footings inadequate Rebuild from below grade Little. Anything set on a failed footing will repeat the failure — this is the case where partial repair wastes money.
Everything works, but the entrance looks dated Refinish or re-skin the leaf All mechanical and electrical. Frequently the highest-value option for a community's curb appeal.

For HOA boards

We'll document any of the above in writing with condition findings and reasoning, so a board has something to review and vote on rather than a verbal recommendation. Communities in Trophy Club, The Highlands, and Hogan's Glen are typically weighing these decisions across more than one entrance at a time, and it's worth seeing them side by side.

Site conditions

Tight geometry and golf-course drainage

Trophy Club's street layout follows the golf courses, which produces gate openings on curves, on cross-slopes, and in positions with limited room to either side. Two practical consequences.

First, slide conversions are often off the table. A slide gate needs run-back room along the fence line, and on a curved street frontage there frequently isn't a straight, clear path for the leaf to travel into. That pushes solutions back toward swing arrangements and rising hinges.

Second, drainage. Course-adjacent properties and the low points along the older streets move a lot of water during North Texas storms, and gate openings tend to sit where it collects. Standing water at the base of a post is the beginning of corrosion at grade and undermining below it — and it's the reason a twenty-year-old post that looks fine at eye level can be badly compromised six inches down.

What we check on an older entrance

  • Post condition at and below grade, not just where you can see it
  • Weld integrity at the hinge stiles, where fatigue concentrates
  • Whether the frame is still square or has racked over time
  • Operator make, model, and whether parts remain available
  • Safety devices: present, functional, and not bypassed
  • Emergency access provision, and whether it actually works
  • Access system connection type and whether the phone line still exists

That assessment is the same whether the answer turns out to be a two-hour repair or a full entrance rebuild. It's the only way to know which one you're looking at.

Trophy Club questions

Common questions

Our operator is 20 years old. Can it be repaired?

Depends entirely on the failure. Mechanical parts — chains, sprockets, bearings, limit switches — are often still obtainable or can be substituted. Control boards and proprietary electronics are where obsolescence bites, and once a board is unavailable the operator is functionally at end of life regardless of how good the gearbox is. We'll identify the model and tell you which category you're in before you commit to anything.

Can we keep our gate and just modernize the access system?

Very often, yes, and it's usually the best value on an older entrance. A modern cellular call box or credential reader can wire into a serviceable existing operator, which gets you current access technology and removes a dying phone line without touching the gate, posts, or wiring in the ground. We'd confirm the operator has real service life remaining first, so you're not modernizing the front end of a system about to fail at the back.

Can you fabricate a replacement leaf to match our other entrance?

Yes — this is a large part of why we run our own shop. We measure the existing gate, reproduce the profile and pattern, and build the replacement to match. New steel against a weathered finish will read differently at first; where the match matters we'll recommend refinishing both so the entrances look like a set.

How far in advance should a board plan an entrance replacement?

Earlier than most do. Once you know an operator's parts are unavailable, you're on borrowed time and the eventual failure will be unscheduled. Getting a written condition assessment lets a board budget it into a cycle rather than fund it as an emergency, which is nearly always the more expensive path.
