Fort Worth is where our work stops being residential. Between the Alliance logistics corridor, the industrial districts around Meacham, and the utility and infrastructure sites scattered across Tarrant County, the gates here are large, heavily cycled, and expected to keep a facility secure rather than keep a driveway private.
Ground conditions
Much of Fort Worth sits on the Fort Worth Prairie, where limestone is shallow — frequently within a few feet of the surface, sometimes less. That single geological fact changes gate work here more than anything else.
An auger that sails through Denton County sand stops dead on Fort Worth limestone. Crews that aren't equipped for it do one of two things, and both create the failure we get called to fix later: they set the post shallower than it should be and pour a wide pad hoping surface area substitutes for depth, or they wander the hole sideways looking for softer ground and end up with a post that isn't where the drawing put it.
Done properly, shallow rock is an advantage. A post socketed into competent limestone is more stable than the same post in deep clay. It just requires the right equipment — rock augers, core drilling where needed, and a willingness to price the job for the ground that's actually there.
What this means for a quote: anyone pricing a Fort Worth gate installation without knowing what's under the opening is guessing. We'd rather find the rock during assessment than during installation.

The most common commercial gate mistake in DFW is installing residential-class equipment on a commercial gate because the opening happened to be a residential size. Duty cycle, not width, determines what belongs on a site.

Putting a Class I operator on a Class III yard is the single most expensive false economy in this trade. It fails early, it fails during operations, and the safety provisions were never designed for that traffic.
Downtime is the real cost
On a residential gate, a failure is an inconvenience. On a distribution facility, a gate stuck closed backs trucks onto a public road, and a gate stuck open means the site is unsecured until someone posts a guard on it. The repair invoice is rarely the expensive part of that day.
That changes how the work should be approached. For commercial clients we focus on the failure modes rather than the parts list: what fails first, what it does when it fails, whether the site can be secured in a degraded state, and which spares are worth keeping on the shelf rather than ordering under pressure.

On a ground-track slide, that's usually track contamination, a worn or flat-spotted roller, or a track that's been struck and deformed. On a site with truck traffic it recurs, because the drive surface always has debris on it. If the gate has repeatedly jumped and been reset, we'd look seriously at converting to cantilever — the leaf is carried on posts with nothing at grade to foul, which removes the failure mode rather than servicing it every quarter.
Yes. For active facilities we schedule around traffic and can work after hours or on weekends when a gate can't be out of service during operations. Tell us the constraint when you call so it's built into the plan rather than discovered on site.
Yes, through Crash Rated Perimeter, our division for anti-ram perimeter systems. That covers crash gates, wedge and beam barriers, and crash-rated bollards to ASTM F2656 ratings. If your requirement references a rating like M30 or M50, or a K-rating from the older standard, we can work to it and advise where a specification is internally inconsistent — which happens more often than you'd expect.
Frequently not, and it's worth actually checking rather than assuming. The most common finding on older commercial installations is entrapment protection that has been bypassed — photo eyes disconnected because they nuisance-tripped, or an edge sensor that stopped working years ago and was jumpered out. That leaves the operator functioning and the safety system absent, which is a real liability position for a commercial property owner. We test it and document what we find.
